The
silver-amalgam filling that has been the standard material
for fillings for years has provided only a reasonable
restoration. It can have shortcomings, such as not bonding
well with the tooth. This can let decay eventually set in
under the filling. Patients do not like the appearance of an
ugly black plug in white teeth, which is not pleasing to
